Oil is spilling out of the seafloor at 5,000 barrels a day, maybe much more, from the BP “Deepwater Horizon” oil well that exploded and sank about 50 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico — a spill that soon will eclipse the volume of the infamous Exxon Valdez spill in 1989.
“WE DON’T NEED NO STINKING REGULATIONS… DON’T NEED NO STINKING EPA… DO YOU LOVE YOUR FREEDOM!? …YES! … SO, DRILL BABY DRILL!
republican mantra as represented through Sarah “I’m Retarded” Palin
The cord-grass marshes of south Louisiana are nurseries for baby shrimp, stalking grounds for blue crabs, and barriers that slow down waves before they bite off more of the mainland. Friday began their transformation into defenseless sponges for sticky, dark oil.
Scientists said the enormous slick had the potential to bring environmental ruin to this treasured coastline.
WE JUST SAID IT DOESN’T MATTER… GOD WILL PROVIDE… WE DON’T NEED TO BE RESPONSIBLE CARETAKERS OF OUR ENVIRONMENT! HOW MANY TIMES DOES IT NEED TO BE SAID?
Chanted the “common sense” Palinites
AND, IF GOVERNMENT WOULD GET OUT OF THE WAY, DEREGULATE, AND SHUT DOWN THE EPA, BUSINESS WILL FIX IT THROUGH INNOVATION STIMULATED BY COMPLETE FREEDOM FROM RESPONSIBILITY…
Said the personality and empathy-deprived Libertarians
Intelligently Progressive and Liberal advocates, scratching their heads in bewilderment, point out facts only to be ignored:
- BP has the responsibility and was left to its own supposedly advanced private-sector means of innovation to put out the fire and cap the well, while also lying by half about the amount of oil gushing into the Gulf waters.
- Albert “Rusty” Gaudé, a state extension agent said that “crabs, oysters and shrimp — part of a Louisiana industry that produces 10 percent of the country’s seafood — could be devastated.”
- “There’s a lot at risk here,” said Jane Lubchenco, who heads the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. She noted that “40-percent of the coastal wetlands in the continental United States are in Louisiana. 97-percent of commercial fish and shellfish in the Gulf depend on estuaries and wetlands during their life cycle.”
- Obama must permanently rescind permission to expand open seas oil drilling off the eastern coast of the United States and Alaska (a pathetic acquiescence and appeasement to republicans and business interests)
