On his personal website, homo-hooker-loving Dr. George Rekers‘ links to the Family Research Council’s “about” page to note his having been one of their co-founders… Whoops! He’s already erased from the Family Research Council’s site, less than 12 hours after the news broke that Dr. James Dobson’s one-time buddy (perhaps F-bomb Buddy, aye James!) has been having his totes lifted by a barely legal Latino twink.
Baptist minister George Alan Rekers, a co-founder in 1983 with James Dobson of the right-wing Family Research Council, was spotted leaving Miami International Airport on April 13 with a 20-year-old he met on a gay escort site, the Miami New Times reports.
Rekers claimed he knew nothing of his traveling companion’s profession when he hired the escort to accompany him on a 10-day European vacation.
“I had surgery,” Rekers told the Miami New Times, “and I can’t lift luggage. That’s why I hired him” — though, medical problems didn’t stop Reker from pushing and tugging the unbalanced baggage cart through the airport while his journeyman posed a few feet away… oops.
Rekers also maintained he learned about his traveling companion’s career as a prostitute halfway through their trip, but did not deny he’d met the young man on Rentboy.com, a Web site for connecting gay escorts with clients.
The Rentboy.com online profile for this hot latino didn’t offer the first clue to this unsuspecting Baptist minister: “smooth, sweet, tight ass” and “perfectly built 8 inch cock (uncut)”… noting, as well, that he is “sensual,” “wild,” and “up for anything”… while pictures on Rentboy.com show a shirtless young man with delicate features, guileless eyes, and sun-kissed, hairless skin.
Ok, well… maybe there was the “first clue” — but only a clue!
So, perhaps Rekers accidentally stumbled upon a deceptively designed web site. Uhn… No, don’t think so…
Alright, so… he.. he… he simply failed to read and instinctively clicked, “I Agree.”
He then would have been transported to a front page covered with images of naked, tumescent men busily sodomizing each other (Not that there’s anything wrong with that!).
Umm… Yeah, that’s… a bit more difficult to explain away… But, let’s give it a minute!
Then Rekers must have performed a search. Did he want a “rentboy,” a “sugar daddy,” or a “masseur”? In what country? And what city? If Rekers searched for a rent boy in Miami, he would have found approximately 80 likely candidates. He must have scrolled down the first page, past the shirtless bears and desperate ex-models, and on to page 2. There, at last, was Lucien.
When approached, the escort — named “Lucien” in the paper — reportedly seemed shocked when told Rekers denied knowing he was a sex worker. “He should’ve been able to tell you that,” he told the newspaper. “But that’s up to him.”
The Family Research Council describes itself on the web as an advocacy group championing “marriage and family as the foundation of civilization, the seedbed of virtue, and the wellspring of society.”
He also is a board member of NARTH (National Association for Research & Therapy of Homosexuality) — a group maintaining that homosexual desires can be “cured” with therapy — and the author of “Growing Up Straight: What Families Should Know About Homosexuality.”
In a Facebook interview with “joe.my.god,” Rekers maintained he was simply trying to spread a message of love to “Lucien.” Well, duh! And… I bet it was some good loving, too!
“I seek to lovingly share two types of messages to them [homosexuals], as I did with the young man called ‘Lucien’ in the news story: It is possible to cease homosexual practices to avoid the unacceptable health risks associated with that behavior, and the most important decision one can make is to establish a relationship with God for all eternity by trusting in Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the cross for the forgiveness of your sins, including homosexual sins,” he wrote.
Oh my F-bomb Gawd! Really!
“While he keeps a low public profile, his fingerprints are on almost every anti-gay effort to demean and dehumanize LGBT people,” says Wayne Besen, a gay rights advocate in New York City and the executive director of Truth Wins Out, which investigates the anti-gay movement. “His work is ubiquitously cited by lobby groups that work to deny equality to LGBT Americans. Rekers has caused a great deal of harm to gay and lesbian individuals.”
I think you know where I’m going with this feature: again… Christian and republican hypocrisy, lies, obfuscation, distortion, illogic, and circular reasoning — the very reasons they have caused so much pain in this nation and the world, while destroying the freedoms this nation purports to uphold.
All of this is NOT to pass judgement on Rekers behavior; I mean, if he wants to hire a hot Latino twink “companion” to travel Europe, it’s not my business or anyone else’s for that matter… except… for deceived financial contributors, congregations he misled by his lies, the family whom he has betrayed, and all of us against whom he has plotted, harmed, and worked to deny full citizenship rights by banning same-sex marriage.
And, yet… many conservative, religious, and republican friends will continue to have no idea to what I am referring. Some of us, though, see the truth for what it is, indeed.
