Chongqing, China — With a population over 34 million, Chongqing is a major city in Southwest China and one of the five national central cities of the People’s Republic of China. The city is known for history and culture in China, and notably, serves as the economic centre of the Upstream Yangtze area, a modern manufacturing centre and a transportation hub for Southwest China. The municipality became the spearhead of China’s effort to develop its western regions and to coordinate the resettlement of residents from the reservoir areas of the Three Gorges Dam project.
